Six local teams to compete at broomball provincials in Arnprior

Six local teams will battle at the Ontario broomball provincials this weekend in Arnprior.

The Ontario Broomball Association (OBA) senior provincial tournament begins Friday and runs until Sunday.

The Kilsyth Phantoms will compete in a field of four teams for the OBA Elite Men’s provincial title.

The Grey Bruce Storm are featured in a seven-team field within the OBA Elite Ladies bracket.

Keady Livestock is set to compete in a six-team set for the OBA Intermediate Men’s provincial title.

Two local teams, the Young Guns and the Titans will compete in the OBA Intermediate Ladies division.

The KTW’s are part of a five-team field in the OBA Masters Ladies bracket.

The OBA Senior Provincials were underway in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in Ontario and forced the postponement and cancellation of most sporting events.

On March 13, 2020, the Town of Arnprior closed its facilities to the public under a directive from public health effectively ending the last provincial broomball tournament.

The Federation of Broomball Associations of Ontario (FBAO) cancelled sanctioned broomball for the duration of the 2020-21 season as COVID-19 forced recreation centres to close.

The 2021-22 season brought broomball back to local rinks with restrictions in place, but shutdowns and worsening infection rates shifted schedules and caused cancellations.

The 2022 Junior Provincial Championships are scheduled for March 18 to 19 in Carleton Place.
