Police have recently received several complaints regarding excessive vehicle noise in contravention of the City of North Bay’s noise bylaws.

In order to curb these incidents, the North Bay police traffic unit, in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police and city bylaw officers will be undertaking a campaign of enhanced enforcement against excessive vehicle noise, including vehicles modified to increase noise output to unreasonable levels, such as with loud mufflers, and the use of engine brakes on transport trucks in prohibited zones.

Under City of North Bay by-laws, offenders risk:

· A minimum fine of $200 up to a maximum of $5,000 on a first offence; and,

· A minimum fine of $400 up to a maximum of $10,000 on all subsequent offences.

Members of the North Bay police will take a zero tolerance approach to enforcement.

Anyone with information about vehicles operating in contravention of North Bay’s noise bylaws is asked to contact the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555.
